About EV Ready Tasmania 

EV Ready Tasmania is a recognition program for accredited Tasmanian tourism businesses that have taken practical steps to support the EV visitor experience. The program is administered by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), supporting operators to build confidence, improve visitor information and contribute to a more EV-ready visitor economy. 

To achieve EV Ready Business status and display the EV Ready Business badge, businesses must have suitable EV charging available on site and be able to provide clear, accurate and useful information to help EV-driving visitors access and use the charging facilities with confidence. 

What is the aim of EV Ready Tasmania?

With almost one in four new vehicles sold in Australia now electric, and more EV-driving visitors seeking EV-friendly businesses and clear charging information, tourism operators have an opportunity to support this growing market and attract more visitors.

EV travellers often plan their trips around where they can charge, stay, stop and explore with confidence. For businesses, providing clear information and suitable charging options can help attract EV-driving visitors, support longer stays and improve the overall visitor experience.

EV Ready Tourism Business status means your business can demonstrate that it: 

• Understands the basic needs of EV-driving visitors 
• Has EV charging available on site 
• Meets the minimum charger standard outlined in the EV Ready Tasmania program 
• Can explain how visitors access and use the charging facilities 
• Can provide nearby charging information if on-site charging is unavailable, occupied or not suitable for a visitor’s needs 
• Has staff who know where to find EV information and how to respond to common enquiries 
• Uses the EV Ready Tourism Business badge accurately and appropriately 

How much does it cost?

This is a free program for Sustainable Tourism Accredited businesses. 

Who Can Participate?

Any Sustainable Tourism Accredited Tasmanian business wanting to better support EV driving visitors is encouraged to explore the program. This includes accommodation providers, attractions, visitor experiences and other tourism operators who want to improve visitor information, build staff knowledge and better cater to the growing EV travel market.

To be eligible to achieve EV Ready Tourism Business status, businesses need to meet the core program requirements outlined below:

• be a Tasmanian tourism business  
• hold Sustainable Tourism Accreditation (with Quality Tourism Australia) 
• have suitable EV charging infrastructure available on site that meets the minimum on site charging standards outlined in this guide

How does it work?

EV Ready Tasmania includes two pathways for tourism operators.

EV Aware

EV Aware is for Sustainable Tourism Accredited businesses that are committed to supporting EV driving visitors, but may not yet be ready, able or suited to install EV charging infrastructure on site.

This pathway helps businesses build their understanding of EV visitor needs through staff awareness, visitor information and nearby charging guidance.

EV Ready Tourism Business

EV Ready Tourism Business is for Sustainable Tourism Accredited tourism businesses with suitable EV charging available on site.

To achieve EV Ready Tourism Business status, businesses must meet the program requirements, including:

• having on site charging that meets the minimum charging requirements
• ensuring relevant staff have completed the online e-learning training
• providing clear visitor information

The self-assessment includes practical guidance and supporting resources to help businesses work through the process.

What are the minimum charging requirements?

To be recognised as an EV Ready Tourism Business, operators must have suitable EV charging available on site.

At minimum, this means a dedicated 15 amp power point or higher capacity EV charging option available for visitor use. A standard 10A domestic power point is not enough to be promoted as EV Ready on site charging.

What is the Staff e-learning training?

Before completing the EV Ready Tasmania self-assessment, key customer-facing and front-of-house staff should complete the EV Ready Business staff e-learning module via the Tourism Toolbox.

This helps ensure the people most likely to speak with EV-driving visitors understand the basics of EV travel, where to find relevant information and how to respond to common guest enquiries. 

For small businesses, this may include the owner/operator and any staff who regularly respond to bookings, guest questions, reception enquiries or visitor information requests. 

What do I receive once approved?

Businesses approved as EV Ready Tourism Businesses will receive:

• EV Ready Tourism Business certificate
• downloadable EV Ready Business badge
• internal decal sticker
• social media templates to help promote their recognition
