The Rainbow Ready Accreditation Program recognises tourism businesses committed to creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive experiences for people of diverse genders and sexualities.

First established in 2013 by the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania (TICT), in consultation with Rainbow Communities Tasmania Inc. and the Coming Out Proud Program Community Liaison Committee, the program has continued to evolve in response to changing community expectations, industry best practice, and the growing recognition of inclusive tourism.

Building on the strong foundations of the original program, its expansion to support tourism businesses across Australia was undertaken in collaboration with a project team that included Dr Faith Ong (The University of Queensland), Associate Professor Clifford Lewis (Charles Sturt University), and Dr Luke Greenacre (Monash University).

Today, the Rainbow Ready Accreditation Program supports and recognises tourism businesses across Australia that foster environments where everyone feels respected, valued, and welcome.

The program assesses LGBTQIA+ inclusion across key areas of business operations, including:

• Policies and Compliance
• Operational Systems and Practices
• Physical Environment and Marketing
• Guest Resources and Information
• Staff Development and Preparedness

Accreditation is awarded to businesses that demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices across their operations, communications and visitor experiences. By participating in the program, businesses can identify opportunities for improvement while gaining recognition for their dedication to LGBTQIA+ inclusion.

A business must have Sustainable Tourism Accreditation to become accredited in this program.

Annual online renewal is required for this program and will fall in line with your Sustainable Tourism Accreditation.
