From the CEO - 20/03/26
Today we’re sharing two important and timely updates: one on the fuel situation in Tasmania, and another on our advocacy addressing the insurance challenges currently facing industry.
This morning, the TICT released a new industry report that highlights the growing pressure that rising insurance costs and limited market access are placing on Tasmania’s tourism industry.
Drawing on survey data from 109 tourism businesses, which together host more than 2.2 million visitors annually, the ‘Insuring Tasmania’s Tourism Industry’ report shows public liability and property insurance premiums have increased by more than 50 per cent over five years. The findings reinforce industry calls for action and set out practical recommendations to address the challenges, including informing the development of the state government’s proposed TasInsure model and continuing to advocate for solutions at the national level.
Importantly, I want to assure you the TICT is focused on solutions and we are developing industry toolkits for operators to be released soon. We also plan to deliver workshops and webinars in the coming months to help operators better understand and manage insurance risk. Please keep an eye out for dates of these upcoming opportunities.
The TICT is looking forward to working collaboratively with Government at all levels as we look to address this complex and challenging problem.

At the same time, it's also important that I am sharing as much information to hand as I have about the current global and national conversations happening around fuel supply.
Last week, we shared the Tourism Australia pulse check survey on fuel and I hope as many of you as possible answered that. The Tasmanian Government is also providing regular updates via the ReCFIT website and the TICT is part of regular industry briefings with the Energy Minister and Premier to ensure Tasmania’s tourism sector is strongly represented in all discussions. Please know that we are monitoring this situation very closely.
