Tourism Industry Coincil Tasmania

From the CEO - 11/6/2026

Today's update comes as we mark the start of another Dark Mofo in southern Tasmania. The vibe is stronger than ever and I want to thank, not only the entire team behind the festival, but also all the operators providing special offers and working hard to cater for our winter visitors.

I spent the start of the week in the north, attending an informative Gastronomy North forum and the week before celebrating the incredible upgrades happening at Launceston Airport - not to mention a family day east over the long weekend! We will also be heading west again in August to continue high-level government conversations on a sustainable future for the West Coast Wilderness Railway.

There's so much happening so I've highlighted a few key updates below and then please keep scrolling and get involved where you can.

  • Collaboration in action as we focus on the future for the north: Following the announcement that Boags will stop production in Launceston, I want to reassure operators that we are working closely with business leaders across the north to maintain a strong focus on demand generation for Launceston and surrounding regions, bringing together the opportunities from the two new Spirits, planned new business events infrastructure, through to the importance of events and Devils content.
  • Advocacy in action - EV charging grants now available! You can read more below but we know there's more the state needs to do to be ready for the rapid uptake of EV tourism - following our strategic advocacy, a new opportunity has emerged for our operators.
  • BLEND and wine tourism: Tickets launch today for our 2026 BLEND Wine and Tourism event in Launceston in July. This is one not to be missed as we ramp up our efforts to elevate the importance of wine tourism in collaboration with Wine Tasmania and Tourism Tasmania.
  • Don't forget our Insurance webinars and Tasmanian Tourism Conference: We held the first of our insurance webinars today with more to follow next week. Finally, Tasmanian Tourism Conference tickets are selling fast and workshops are filling up - so just a warning not to leave your registration too late.

Please look after yourselves and thank you for everything you are doing to keep our world-class visitor economy ticking along.
