Brad Nowland & Nick Turner
Masterclass: Using Advocacy and Media to Empower Tourism, with Brad Nowland and Nick Turner
In this immersive training session designed exclusively for the tourism industry we delve into the world of advocacy.
What is an advocacy strategy and how can you design one to suit your tourism organisation or business?
We will look at examples of some very successful strategies, what to do and what not to do, and discuss how with a few small steps you can raise your business profile, generate support for a cause, and generate change.
The session will be led by Brad Nowland. Brad worked in Treasury for many years before joining Will Hodgman's team in 2006. From there he helped design and implement the strategy that transformed the Liberals into an election winning outfit. He now works with a number of Tasmanian businesses and peak body organisations on their communications and advocacy strategy.
Nick Turner will then delve into his "How to Work with the Media" session.
Nick will provide information about the Tasmanian media landscape, it will define what news is, what to do when approached by the media, how to secure coverage for your business, what to do when bad news breaks, interview tips and some dos and don’ts.
The presentation also includes examples of what to do, what not to do, what can happen when it does not work (and how to avoid that) and what can happen when it works.
This will be an interactive session where questions are welcomed - so make sure to have them at the ready!
This is a two-part Masterclass session between 1:30pm-3pm and 3:30pm - 5pm. The first session is facilitated by Brad Nowland and is centred around advocacy.
