From the CEO - 14/02/25
I know I speak on behalf of our entire industry in saying that our thoughts are with all communities, operators and emergency service personnel impacted by the current fire situation in Tasmania.
In line with agreed emergency management processes, Tourism Tasmania continues to lead communications with our industry through its Tourism Talk. The TICT continues to work collaboratively across regional tourism organisations and state authorities to provide support and industry feedback. The Tasmanian Government would like to understand how your business is being impacted by the west coast bushfire emergency to inform any support measures that may be put in place. You can assist by completing Business Tasmania’s Emergency Event Impact Registration Form or call the Business Tasmania team on 1800 440 026. The information provided will assist in determining the development of a potential support package. Safety is of course the highest priority at this time, and we continue to take advice from the authorities.
On a separate note, the TICT continues to work with its partners to provide feedback and industry advice on the roll out of the elements of the Spirit of Tasmania support package announced following the delay of the new vessels. You can find the latest update from the Tasmanian Government on some elements of that package here. The TICT will continue to advocate for a timely roll out of the package to meet industry's needs.
Next week, I'm looking forward to joining our industry colleagues at the first of our Visitor Economy Regional Gatherings where I will provide an update on our advocacy, industry development and support programs as well as some important projects to address the challenges you have raised with us through industry sentiment surveys. These gatherings have received strong attendance numbers and it's an important way to see how all those working in the visitor economy do so in a collaborative way.
And finally, if you haven't already booked for our Northern Focus event to hear from the Premier about his Government's plans for the north, tickets are still available. Our ever-popular Tourism Collective event for International Women’s Day has also launched and we'd love for you to join us as we continue our conversation about women in our industry.
Please stay safe and I look forward to seeing many of you in person next week.
