Embracing Challenge: A Sustainable Growth Playbook for the Tasmanian Tourism Industry

Intended workshop audience: Anyone involved in the Tasmanian tourism industry who wishes to contribute to the future of the industry (and reap the rewards for their business, too).

Workshop Description: In this session, co-facilitated by the TICT and KPMG’s Tony Bonney (Director, ESG Sustainability & Impact), industry is invited to come together to learn, collaborate and innovate for meaningful change for the broader tourism industry.

Part 1 of this collaborative session will ask you to consider the most wicked problems facing tourism businesses today - from climate change to supply chain disruptions, skills & workforce shortages and rapidly changing regulatory conditions – and then guide you through the process of designing our way into a better future for our industry. We’ll invite you to contribute your ideas in a symposium-style session that we hope will help contribute to our roadmap to a more resilient Tasmanian tourism industry.

Part 2 of the session will focus on how to respond to these challenges within your business, leading to a better and more resilient business with a more engaged & purpose-driven workforce, loyal customer base, and reduced risk.

About Lauren

Lauren Cameron is the Tasmanian tourism industry's first ever Carbon & Sustainability Adviser.

Funded by the Tasmanian Government and working out of TICT, Lauren is supporting tourism operators across the state to measure their carbon footprint, and then taking practical steps to reduce their emissions, as well as supporting operators more broadly on their ESG goals.

Originally a journalist and sustainable travel writer, Lauren pursued her passion for sustainability, returning to Murdoch University to complete a degree in Sustainable Development before working as a consultant in Asia on environmental resource management and sustainable development. She spent time working with the United Nations Sustainable Urban Development section in Bangkok, before returning to Australia.

Having settled in Tasmania with her young family, Lauren brings a unique blend of tourism and sustainability experience to this important role.

Tony Bonney

About Tony

Tony Bonney works for KPMG as a Director in its ESG Practice and consults on the intersection between high performance, purpose, growth, and culture. He also has his own consultancy Grow On Purpose.

For 40 years Tony has been an entrepreneur, working at connecting people to who they are, what matters to them, and the strategies that build their success in that knowledge.

Tony's methodology is data and research-led, proven from decades of field experience. Under-pinning it is the philosophy that a clear and activated purpose enables people and organisations to consistently deliver the best version of themselves. It results in leaders guiding meaningful work, creating connected teams that love their roles, delivering authentic customer experiences and trust.

In partnership with KPMG, Grow on Purpose is focused on supporting existing and founder-led firms to realise their full potential to engage their teams, customers and investors through the “new narrative” that emerges from ESG reporting commitments.
