From the CEO - 7/05/25
We're heading into the time of the year again where the TICT’s engagement and major events ramp up and there's plenty of opportunity for learning, upskilling and professional development.
But before you read about those, I wanted to congratulate Anthony Albanese and his team on securing a second term of Government and specifically note that the TICT is looking forward to continuing to work closely with our elected representatives in Tasmania at the federal level. We are confident they will fight hard for Tasmania's interests in Canberra, including for the visitor economy.
I also have some important news on the leadership of the TICT. Following our AGM and Board Meeting yesterday, it's with some sadness that I let you know that our Chair of eight years, Daniel Leesong, has made the difficult decision to make way for new leadership.
Dan has been a strong and considered leader of the TICT including during some of the industry's most trying times, and on behalf of the industry, TICT Board and the management team, I want to thank him for his passion and contribution to Tasmania's visitor economy. This will continue of course as he continues with his term as a Director on our Board.
I'm pleased to report that the TICT Board endorsed Clint Walker as the new Chair. Clint has an extensive tourism and business career in regional Tasmania, currently as Partner of Stanley Accommodation Group, but also in providing strong advocacy for our regions and their role in our state's success. I'm very much looking forward to working with Clint to represent our industry and it will be great to have such a strong presence in the north west of state.
And finally, before you read on, I want to encourage operators to head along to the West by North West Forum which is fast approaching. I will be providing an important update to industry and I'm looking forward to it.
We also have some important collaborations coming up with the Tasmanian Hospitality Association, including our Tackling Waste consultation sessions, as well as a joint roundtable we are convening with key government representatives to discuss the challenges we are experiencing in regional worker accommodation.
You can also expect an exciting announcement this week about the upcoming Tasmanian Tourism Conference - T-minus 2 months to go! That's it for now, and I look forward to seeing you out and about soon.
