Tourism Industry Coincil Tasmania

From the CEO 5/11/25

Today's TICT industry wrap is focussed on bringing you up to speed with a range of tools, opportunities and resources that are available to you as operators right now. We understand it's hard to navigate all the things on offer, so we have endeavoured to bring them all together into one place.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the more than 500 operators, stakeholders and industry supporters who came together to celebrate the Tasmanian Tourism Awards on Friday night. This night is about so much more than accolades, it's a true celebration of the collaboration and cooperation of our Tassie tourism industry - which as I said on the night is truly unique across the country. We've been blown away from the positive media and social coverage that has followed.

It's been an incredibly busy time for news and announcements, with lots of positive signals as we head into the summer period. To name a few - the return of seasonal direct Auckland to Hobart flights through Air New Zealand with an additional 11 per cent capacity. The confirmation of the June 2026 dates for the return of Dark MOFO, as well as some great regional product and experience openings across the state. We'll continue to highlight the positive things happening in our industry as confidence breeds confidence in our sector.

At the same time, the State Government's interim budget will be released tomorrow. The TICT's firm focus will be on the more fulsome May 2026 Budget, and we will work to provide our normal industry budget submission through that process. While we are very aware of the Government's statements around the need to find efficiencies, we will strongly be arguing that given our industry's economic return to Tasmania, and our support of one in six Tasmanian jobs especially in regional communities, investment in demand generation and infrastructure remains critical.

I look forward to continuing to get out as much as I can over the remaining two months of the year - it was great to be in the east a couple of weeks ago and the north last week. I'm certainly notching up the kilometres but loving hearing from you all and sharing in the incredible work you do every day.
