Tourism Industry Coincil Tasmania

From the CEO - 16/10/24

With school holidays having now drawn to a close, our focus is on a busy few weeks before we're into the summer season. There's certainly a lot happening.

It was good to welcome Qantas' first A220 aircraft into Launceston on Monday. An important signal of confidence, with the new aircraft generating 25 per cent less emissions and 50 per cent less noise than the aircrafts they replace. Also, yesterday, our Chair joined the team at Doubletree by Hilton for the official opening of Hobart's newest hotel. These initiatives are all important confidence builders in our industry and help cement our reputation.

At the same time, public discourse around the berthing facilities for the new Spirit of Tasmania vessels continues. In line with the TICT's commitment to communicate with our industry when there's a confirmed way forward to share, we expect an update from the Premier in the next few weeks and will share that with you as soon as possible.

We remain in constant dialogue with the Government and the Premier is aware of the TICT's advocacy in relation to clear and transparent communications with industry going forward.

Finally, there's only three weeks left to secure your ticket to tourism's night of nights - the Tasmanian Tourism Awards Gala. We’d love you to join us in celebrating Tassie tourism excellence at its best.
