Tourism Industry Coincil Tasmania

From the CEO - 16/08/24

As we inch closer to our Tasmanian Tourism Conference in Launceston next week, I'm looking forward to seeing more than 400 of our industry operators and visitor economy partners come together. This year you will find that there's a mix of practical and relevant updates on the here and now, especially in the current economic conditions, but also an important dose of inspiration about the future. There are still some limited tickets available!

On two other critical matters that relate to access to our state, this week the TICT, along with other relevant stakeholders attended a round table in Devonport to gain a better understanding of the challenges impacting the berthing of the new Spirit of Tasmania vessel in Devonport and to be part of working through solutions to ensure demand is met and any additional capacity is able to brought on as soon as possible. We know this matters to industry.

The Tasmanian Government and Government Business Enterprise leaders around that table are committed to coming back to us in coming weeks with updates on timeframes and answers to some of the questions. As your peak industry body, we will play a part in ensuring our industry is adequately kept up to date but also that you are ready to leverage the new market. More to come on that. In the meantime, you can find a statement from the Premier issued on Wednesday here.

Also on REX, it was positive to see the Australian Government guarantee all regional flight bookings for Rex Airlines as it continues its regional operations while under voluntary administration. This is important for consumer confidence, as the airline continues to play a critical role for our regional locations here in Tassie.
