Tourism Industry Urges Mediation to Resolve Lease Dispute

The Tourism Industry Council Tasmania has called on the State Government to follow the dispute resolution process over an eco-tourism venture in the Freycinet National Park.

TICT Chief Executive Officer Daniel Hanna said today the TICT urged both parties to commit to following the dispute resolution process set out in the lease between the Parks and Wildlife Service and Tim and Archana Brammall.

“We urge the Government and the proponents Tim and Archana Brammall to enter into mediation to resolve the dispute over the lease and to follow the original dispute resolution process,” Mr Hanna said.

“The TICT understands that the parties have gone through the first step in the process with management level meetings without reaching agreement and they should now move to the next step of mediation.

Mr Hanna said the Brammalls had to close their tent-based eco-tourism accommodation venture near Bryans Beach because of the discovery of a Sea Eagle’s nest.

“The TICT supports the provision of sensitive tourism products within National Parks but is also conscious that the interests of the environment need to come first.

In this case the focus shouldn’t be on placing blame for the original decision but in finding a satisfactory resolution for all parties involved,” Mr Hanna said.
